3 Ways To Enjoy Outdoor Living This Fall

Outdoor living has been the biggest home trend since 2013, according to the American Institute of Architects, and with good reason. Whether attached to the home or freestanding, outdoor living spaces are multifunctional entertainment areas that can include full kitchens, bars, living and dining rooms to relax, entertain and maximize every square foot of your home and lot’s space. These spaces are wonderful in the summer, but with a little tweaking, are also great year-round. Here are nine ways to enjoy your outdoor space as the weather gets cooler.

Outdoor Heaters

At Wieland Builders, our attached outdoor rooms include gorgeous brick or stone fireplaces that are perfect while you watch a movie. However, if you want to move completely out of your outdoor room to enjoy dinner or drinks on the patio, you may want additional heating to keep guests comfortable on a chilly evening.  Some homeowners are opting for in-ground fire pits with comfortable seating. For dinner or general entertaining, you may also want to consider a freestanding propane heater like this one from Hayneedle. Another option is a wall-mounted heat lamp like this one from Larson Electronics.

Blanket Boxes

Chilly nights call for cozy fleece or even cashmere blankets. Instead of keeping your blankets indoors, try adding a blanket box to your patio. This Del-Amo Teak Storage Bench from Wayfair includes plenty of storage space and seating for two adults. During the warmer months, swap out the blankets and use the space as a toy box or cushion holder. If you’re looking for something great year-round that doesn’t need to be covered, try this storage box made of Envirez, a durable bioresin made from natural materials by Frontgate. It is reinforced to keep water out and its interior contents dry.

Add Accents

Adding a large selection of throw pillows in various textures will not only make your guests more comfortable, but it will also warm up the space’s décor. Layering textured throw rugs on top of outdoor carpets is another great way to add comfort and style. Finish your look with seasonal votives, tea lights or these pierced porcelain hurricane candles from West Elm.

We hope these ideas inspire you to enjoy the outdoors with your family and friends during the cooler months.
